In the spotlight

Tierra Axom

Major: Psychology, minor in Sociology
Graduation Date: May 2015

Organization: President of the Student Government Association (SGA)

Why is SGA important to BPC? “SGA is important because we know what the students want and what they need. Students feel like they’re individuals, not just products of the school. They learn that the school needs them.”

Why should students join SGA? “So that their voices will be heard. A lot of students feel like their voices are not heard, so being part of SGA, students are able to be involved in activities that change the school where they feel like it needs to be changed.”

What do you hope to accomplish as President? “I want more people to be involved. Not just to sit around and discuss different things, but that everybody wants to share a helping hand and reach out to the next person. I want them to realize they can help anybody around them. They can help everyone, no matter the gender, ethnicity, or age.”

What has been your greatest experience? “Meeting new people and knowing that everybody knows that I care about them, that I’ll do anything to help them. Anyone can come to me when they need something.”

How has BPC impacted you? “That’s like a page by itself. To know that I am somebody and that no matter what I do and the decisions that I made, they’ll support me. I’m loved for who I am. Especially being a Christian, having people around me going through same experiences. I can go talk to administration or anybody and can feel comfortable with the answer they give me. Also, they can feel comfortable talking with me about my Christian walk and what I'm going through. I don't have to feel afraid of putting myself in a box. I feel that it's pushing me towards being a better person."

Tierra is also involved in the FCA Leadership Team, God's Gospel Choir, and is on the Women's Basketball team.
