Rotaract of BPC
Winner of the 2007-2008 Community Service Award
Who are we?
Rotaract is an international program of Rotary International for young professionals and university-level students ages 18 to 30 who want to make a difference in their community and around the globe.
Who can be a part of Rotaract?
Any BPC student between the ages of 18 and 30.
How do I join?
E-mail staff advisor Kelley M. Arnold (Interim Director of Marketing) or any of the officers to the right of the screen with your interest. Attend a meeting. Membership is non-exclusive and always available. The only thing required is your interest and willingness to serve.
Where do you meet?
We meet in the small room off the main room of the Residential Restaurant in the Phillips Student Center (most) Mondays at 5 p.m. Our meetings usually last 30-45 minutes.
What do you do?
This chapter is a re-birth of a former chapter on BPC campus. In the 80s and 90s, Rotaract was a strong force on campus. Their community volunteerism and fundraising spirit is responsible many of the wheel-chair accessible paved walkways on the Mount Vernon campus.
In Spring 2007 semester, the club was rejuvenated. It has seen a steady membership. It also began a popular interorganizational cultural awareness festival, CultureFEST, in the Spring 2007. This year's event was participated and supported by Black Student Fellowship, Latin America Student Organization, Pi Gamma Mu and Circle K.
We also raised money for the McAllister Hall Renovation Project through an October/early November "Trick or Treat" fundraiser and supported the BPC Women's Fellowship "Junk in the Trunk" fundraiser.
In 2008, we plan to participate in the Rebuilding Toombs-Montgomery program through the Toombs-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce. We hope to combine forces with the Rotary Club of Vidalia to either work together or challenge them to form their own fundraising/work team. Our club is also organizing a flag/cultural exchange between the Rotary Club of Moldova and the Rotary Club of Vidalia. Assessment Day will also be fun as we sponsor a "Dunk Your Teacher/Administrator" dunking booth fundraiser.
