MOUNT VERNON— Dr. Steve Echols, Brewton-Parker President, began the September 6 chapel service by introducing the speaker, Dr. Jerry Peele, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Eastman. Peele is a graduate of both New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of Georgia, where he played baseball. Additionally, Echols bragged on Peele as being, “…a man of God, a man respected in our convention [Georgia Baptist Convention].” Following Echols’ introduction, Dr. Matt and Tyra Haley led the congregation in worship.
Peele began his message by referencing a well-known verse, John 3:16. He continued by telling his audience, “The most important relationship you have will be with God and that relationship will be very good or very bad.” As Peele went on he urged the people to experience the love of God so that others can be loved properly. He wrapped up his sermon by reminding the congregation, “Ultimate joy is found in God.”
