MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker’s Tuesday, Sept. 20 chapel service began with a time of worship led by students. Beth Mathews, Branden Lewis, Xandria Kind and Kenya Durden led the students, faculty and staff in “How Great Is Our God” and “Oceans.”
Dr. Steven Echols, President of Brewton-Parker, began his message on “The Ultimate Quiz.” In reference to Luke 22:42, Echols started by asking his audience, “Why did God say no to Jesus?” Continuing, he evaluated that it was not due to disobedience, selfishness, or a lack of understanding that sent Jesus to the cross. Echols reminded his listeners, “Sometimes we have ideas about what we want to do, but God is wiser so sometimes he says, ‘No.’” He finished by saying, “Jesus demonstrated that being a follower would involve doing what we don’t want to do.”
