MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker College’s chapel service Tuesday, October 25 began as it typically does with worship. Freshman Brandon Hinkson took the stage with his guitar to lead the audience in “Lord I Need You and Our God.”
Following this time of worship, Dr. Steven Echols, BPC President, introduced Dr. David Wilson, BPC Assistant Professor of Worship and Church Music, for an exciting announcement. As Wilson came on stage, you could feel the excitement in the room. He humbly proclaimed his news, SACS had reinstated the music program at BPC, a project Wilson had been working on in his four years as professor. Following the announcement, Wilson stated, “If you know where we have been and what we have been dealing with, I believe it’s a miracle. We are living proof that God is alive and well and working among his people.” After his announcement, Voices of Truth, a vocal ensemble, was welcomed to the stage to sing, “Song of Moses.”
Echols returned to finish his sermon series on Galatians 5:22-23, The Fruit of the Spirit. First, he began with faithfulness using Revelation 2:10 which encourages believers to, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.” Second, Echols spoke on gentleness which he equated with humbleness and reminded his listeners that it was the opposite of pride. He concluded with self-control where he told his listeners, “as Christians, we need to have control over ourselves.”
