MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker’s November 8 chapel began with students, Alaina Alderman and Carolina Murray, leading worship. After the time of worship, Dr. Ricky Cummings, pastor of First Baptist Church of Vidalia, began his message by asking the question, “What kind of faith do you have?” Following his question, he read James 2:14-26 where James explains that faith without works is dead. Cummings then explained that there are three types of faith: “dead faith, emotional faith, and dynamic faith.” He explained that dead faith is when a person has faith, but there is no change in that person’s life. Cummings then talked about his experience growing up claiming to be a Christian and trying to earn his salvation. “I was a lost religious person with dead faith,” he stated. According to Cummings, emotional faith is when a person believes in his or her mind and gets emotional about God, but is not truly saved. He read James 2:19, “Even the demons believe,” and explained to the congregation five things that the demons believe about God that most people who claim to be believers do not believe. The third faith, dynamic faith, is one that “changes the way you live your life.” Being as it was Election Day, Cummings concluded by saying, “What is going to change the United States is not the President, but a country of believers living in devotion and allegiance to the Lord.”
