MOUNT VERNON— November 15, 2016 BPC History Majors Stephen Farris and Jacob Johnson presented original research, in fulfillment for course requirements, to a crowded audience of BPC students, faculty, and staff. Stephen Farris’s presentation, “Mary Tudor: A Fierce Queen,” detailed English Queen Mary I’s life and reign. Farris argued that negative events in her youth contributed to her later negative policies as queen. Jacob Johnson’s presentation, “Who Died and Made You King?: an Historical Explanation on Legislative Authority,” analyzed the development of legal authority in Western Civilization. Ranging from Ancient Greek to the Modern Era, Johnson argued western law has been shaped by individual nations’ territorial, religious, and cultural norms alongside the eternal question of people’s role in their governments. The BPC Department of History is extremely proud of the ongoing academic growth and strength of its students.
