MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker’s first chapel of the spring semester began with Steve Edwards, Campus Pastor, sharing about Martin Luther King Jr. and the work he had done. Edwards continued by encouraging students to live like King. “Our job is to put others needs before our needs,” he said. Following Edwards, student Alaina Burkett was welcomed to the stage to lead worship for the students, faculty and staff gathered in Saliba Chapel. Burkett encouraged the attendees to look within themselves during worship and asked, “What are we doing with our knowledge of God’s love?”

Dr. Steven Echols, BPC President, began his message by reading Revelation 19:11-16 and reminding the audience that, “While we may be inaugurating a new president, Jesus is still King of Kings.” He reminded his listeners that Jesus established His kingship because He is, “the embodiment of all wisdom.” As he continued, Echols emphasized that all throughout the Bible, “Jesus is the theme,” encouraging students to look for that as they read. Echols finished up by saying, “I don’t know what kind of Christianity you believe, but the truth is the real Christianity of the Bible follows Jesus and serves Him. Don’t expect it to be an easy path. At the end we may feel tattered, torn and worn, but one day Jesus is coming again as King. Is He your King?”
