MOUNT VERNON— Saturday, January 21, Brewton-Parker College welcomed nearly 80 high school and college aged students as they held their first ‘Defend the Faith’ Apologetics Conference. Dr. Billy Puckett, Director of Church Relations, invited guests to speak at the conference, the goal being to inspire students to be able to defend Christianity with logical arguments and reasoning. Dr. Adam Greenway, Dean of the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism and Ministry and Vice President for Academic Services at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, was the keynote speaker for the event where he spoke in two sessions to the students.

“There is far more religious diversity at this time… if Jesus tarries in his coming, it will only get worse,” stated Greenway as he shared why apologetics were necessary. He continued by saying that the traditional approach to evangelism has not caught up with the current world and that apologetics and evangelism need to be integrated. Greenway continued by sharing ways to defend issues regarding Christianity and how students can use reasoning to defend their faith and beliefs.
Between Greenway’s sessions, students went to breakout sessions where they were given the options to attend the following: “Biblical Hope in the Age of ISIS,”
by Dr. Jerry Ray, BPC Professor of Christian Studies; “The Defense of Universal Morality: Why Everyone Gets Mad When You Punch ‘em in the Face,” by Stephen Collins, BPC Senior Christian Studies major; “God is Bringing Sexy Back: The Biblical Design for Marriage,” by Austin Pounds, BPC Junior Christian Studies major; and “Creation vs. Evolution,” by Dr. Ricky Cummings, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Vidalia.
In addition to the informational sessions, students ate lunch in the dining hall, took a campus tour, and were given the opportunity to speak with an admissions counselor. To get involved with Brewton-Parker’s Church Relations, email Dr. Billy Puckett at bpuckett@bpc.edu.
