MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker’s February 6 chapel service began with worship led by freshman Brandon Hinkson. Hinkson played the guitar and sang “Great Are You Lord” and “How He Loves.” Following the time of worship, President Steve Echols introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Garry Lewis, pastor of First Baptist Rincon.

Lewis began his message by explaining that there were three themes in the Bible that Christians should look to when deciding how to treat others. The themes involved treating people like they are sacred, showing them love, and giving them grace. Lewis urged Christians to “quit expecting unbelieving people to live like believing people.” When engaging with non-believers Christians should, “treat them like they have purpose, do unto them as you would do unto yourself, and show them grace,” Lewis said. “We have placed more emphasis on what people see instead of who we are,” he stated. Lewis concluded by explaining to the crowd what a difference Jesus made in his life. “Here’s who I was and here’s who I am and the only guy who could get me through the in between is Jesus,” he explained.
