MOUNT VERNON— Brewton-Parker College’s Tuesday, February 28 chapel service began with a time of worship led by students. Bradley Hoover, Joshua Daughtry, Ashley Poole, and Beth Mathews used their talents on piano, drums and vocals and led the students, staff and community in, “Ever Be,” “Revelation Song,” and “Broken Vessels.”
Following the time of worship, Dr. Grant Lilford, Professor of English and Chair of Brewton-Parker’s Division of Christian Studies and Humanities, took the stage to share a message. Lilford began by sharing Psalm 115 which compares God to the gods of heathens. Lilford shared that it should serve as encouragement knowing, “Jesus is invisible to us because He is serving us,” and “God is invisible because He is within us; He only becomes visible through the works that glorify Him.”
Lilford continued by speaking on idolatry and how it affects the lives of Christians and future generations. “Does our relationship with idols undermine our relationship with the One True God?” he asked. He continued by sharing that “idolatry can be avoided by trusting God and not ourselves.”
