MOUNT VERNON—Brewton-Parker’s Tuesday, March 21 chapel service began with worship led by students Olivia Brantley, Morgan Brantley, Branden Lewis, Carolina Murray, Beth Mathews, and Assistant Professor of Music, Dr. Matt Haley. The group led the congregation in three songs, “Open Up the Heavens”, “Hosanna” and “There’s Just Something About That Name.”
After the time of worship, Headmaster of Vidalia Heritage Academy, Jeff McCormick, took the stage to speak. McCormick began his message by reading 1 Samuel 16, focusing on verse seven in particular. “We choose people the same way we choose products…by their packaging,” McCormick pointed out. God, as 1 Samuel 1:7 points out, “looks at the heart.” McCormick then read Psalm 23 and explained that “when God looked at David’s heart He saw a believing, meditating, holy, courageous, thankful heart. He saw a heart fixed on God.” “What heart does He see in your life?” McCormick asked the congregation.
McCormick went on to explain how he believes David acquired these characteristics that made his heart fixed on God. These characteristics took times of solitude and service to develop. “God is never in a hurry to build His way, His heart, and His character in a person,” said McCormick. McCormick encouraged all those who might have slipped up and wavered from God saying, “God doesn’t reject you, He reaches out to you.” “God will never turn His back on you.”
