MOUNT-VERNON— On Aug. 9, faculty, staff, trustees, and community leaders attended the Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the college’s newly constructed male residence hall, Baron Ridge Building C. Attendees gathered in order to dedicate the dorm to the fulfillment of the BPC’s mission to see the lives of students transformed academically and spiritually for the glory of God.
The ceremony opened with remarks from Lynda Yawn, Vice Chairman of BPC Board of Trustees, and Joey Fountain, Mayor of Mount Vernon. Both Yawn and Fountain expressed their excitement for BPC and its continued growth.
“Brewton-Parker is so critical to the community, and especially to Mount Vernon,” stated Fountain during his opening remarks. “Dr. Echols has done a great job putting together a staff that is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. They have recruited hard to bring BPC back to where it should be. It’s a blessing to have BPC in the community. Students can not only get a solid education, but a good Christian education as well. We are proud to have the college here and proud to be a part of this new project.”
Construction began only 11 short weeks ago. Through the relentless efforts of the men like Danny Fountain and Benny McLendon, the project was completed on time and under budget.
“We gave Danny Fountain an impossible deadline,” commented Dr. Echols. “But he never complained. He just got the work done.”
During his recognition of the Legacy Donors, Dr. Echols stated, “We are very thankful for every gift of every size that has made this project possible. We want to thank all of our Legacy Donors, both past and future. Because of their generosity, we are here today to dedicate this project to the Lord. We are the only four-year Christian College in South Georgia, and I believe the good people of South Georgia need, want, and will support a Christian College. God has brought together a great group of people who believe in BPC’s mission, and it is God who will see us through. We have to continue in the right direction. That is our commitment today.”
After the Dr. Echols’ words of appreciation and recognition, he invited Ray Sullivan, Executive Vice President, and Daniel Prevett, Vice President for Athletics and Student Development, to offer prayers of thanksgiving, dedication, and blessing for the new residents. The Dedication Ceremony concluded with a benediction from Gary Braddy, BPC Trustee and Executive Committee Member. Afterwards, attendees were invited to tour the new facilities and enjoy complimentary refreshments in the Lakeside Grill.
This event marks a historical moment in the history of BPC, as it has been twenty years since a new dormitory has been built on campus. Next year, the college will enter phase two of its Rise and Shine Capital Campaign, wherein plans are being made for the construction of yet another residential hall.
