MOUNT-VERNON— Residents of Mount Vernon, GA joined Brewton-Parker College and students on August 19 for part one of the workshop “The Golden Age of Gospel Music.” This workshop is not solely educational, however, as participants also prepare for a special gospel concert on August 26.
The concert choir for this concert will be comprised of Brewton-Parker College staff and students, the 12th District Gospel Choir of the Georgia General Missionary Baptist Congress, and interested members of the community. It is a unique collaborative effort that corresponds with the Fountain-New Library’s “The Golden Age of Gospel Music.”
Tanvi Chauhan, Interim Library Director, said, “The Library is excited to bring Dr. Dave Wilson, Chair of the Department of Music and Worship Ministry, and Donte Jones, Director of the 12th District Gospel Choir of the GGMBC, together for the Golden Era exhibit. We look forward to the concert.”
Wilson and Jones led the August 19 workshop and will lead the second part of the workshop on August 26. This workshop will conclude directly into the concert. Wilson said, “Donte Jones and the gospel choir are a very talented group and the event promises to be an exciting time of learning about gospel music and presenting that music in the form of a concert. I am excited for our students to learn gospel music from those who understand and perform it best.”
The second part of the workshop will be held on August 26 from 3:00PM – 5:00PM in Brewton-Parker College’s Saliba Chapel. The concert will directly follow at 5:00PM. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the gospel concert, even if they did not attend the preluding workshop.
