Brewton-Parker Women’s Volleyball hosted “Dig Pink Night” at their Wednesday, October 25 match. The night acted as a fundraiser for the Side-Out Foundation, a non-profit charity that raises awareness and funds for breast cancer treatment.
The night began with breast cancer survivor Diane Green giving an introduction in which she shared her story of battling through and eventually overcoming breast cancer. Following the introduction, Dr. Steve Echols, President of Brewton-Parker College, said a quick prayer and the match began.
During the match, attendees snacked on free breast cancer awareness ribbon cookies, pink cotton candy, and pink lemonade. There was also an opportunity to purchase tickets for one dollar to enter a serving competition and a raffle for prizes. The serving competition allowed each ticket holder two chances to serve a volleyball from one side of the court to the other. The goal was to make the ball land on a prize and thus win the prize. Prizes included Brewton-Parker and Hardware Pizza t-shirts, Chick-fil-a gift cards, and Brewton-Parker drawstring bags. The raffle drawing took place after the completion of the volleyball game. Chick-fil-a gift cards, Hardware Pizza gift cards, and the grand prize of a tablet were given away in the drawing.
Opportunities were given throughout the night for people to make donations to Side-Out Foundation. T-shirts were sold in an effort to raise funds prior to the event and will continue to be on sale the following week. Jonathan Rose, Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach, shared, “With my first Dig Pink night with BPC finished, I am really excited to be able to support the Side-Out Foundation. Everyone was able to come together to plan and support our efforts to raise money. After the match was over we counted the money and raise about $1,100 to donate to the Side-Out Foundation, and are currently still raising money. I believe we can get close to our goal of $3,000 within the next week. It is great to see this because it is just a start. We will be having our Dig Pink match each year in the hopes that our goal will grow each year.”
