Brewton-Parker College has added two community events to correspond with the Onion Festival weekend. A fishing competition will be held at Jones Lake on Saturday, April 28 for the majority of the day. Meanwhile the Historic Village will be offering tours at their traditional Spring opening.
The fishing tournament will run from 10:00am – 2:00pm. However, participants are free to arrive at any point during this period of time. Participants are required to check-in at the boat dock in order to qualify for prize. The fisherman with the largest catch of the day will win the competition. While Brewton-Parker has a few rods that are available to borrow, community members are encouraged to bring their own gear and bait.
The Historic Village will also be open on April 28 for tours during the same period of time. In addition to learning more about the influential people who once lived in these homes, visitors will be able to make corn husk dolls, biscuits, help churn butter, and play horseshoes.
