MOUNT VERNON–Dr. Roger Byrd, Part-time Professor of Political Science and Criminal Justice, will present an academic research paper at the Georgia Political Science Association annual conference in Savannah. Byrd’s paper entitled “Throwing Away the Key: A New Perspective on Effective Criminal Justice Policy”, will be presented on November 9 as a part of the conference review of contemporary Public Administration policies. Of his paper and research Byrd said, “Public policy must be formulated first and foremost upon evidence-based research. Crime and punishment policy in our society has too often been driven by emotion and political expediency. As a people, we have paid a price, human and economic, for our misdirection. It is my goal with this paper to contribute to the overall literature of fact-based policy development in the area of criminal justice public policy.”

Founded in 1968, the GPSA is the professional association for political science practitioners and educators in Georgia.  Membership is drawn from the public, private and academic sectors. The 2018 annual conference will showcase both domestic and international presentations.
