On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, sophmore DeAngelo Howell was named the first recipient of the 2018 Domino Effect Award by Dr. Davis Huffman, Program Director and Assistant Professor of Communication. This Annual Communication Award is given to students who communicate kindness in a way that sets off a succession of similar events. These small events impact faculty and classmates alike, and in turn affect the entire campus.
After class one day, Huffman watched Howell approach a student in need and offer a hug of encouragement. She was so touched by his act of kindness, that she felt called to found this new award. As Huffman announced this year’s recipient during chapel, she asked students to stand if they too had been encouraged by Howell. Nearly half the crowd stood in response.
Huffman created this award to praise students like Howell for their small acts of kindness. Looking to Christ as the first Domino who offered himself in the ultimate sacrifice, she hopes to encourage BPC students to reflect this same sacrificial love as they serve one another across campus.
