MOUNT VERNON–On Tuesday, November 6, Brewton-Parker College students, faculty, and staff enjoyed a night embracing new cultures at the International Gala. Hosted by the Cultural Diversity Committee, this event welcomed students, faculty, and staff to decorate tables in the Fountain-New Library to represent each of their native countries.
During the event, students were given the opportunity to learn about a new cultures represented in the Baron family. As they walked around the room enjoying what each table had to offer, they learned new things about each country, such as the language, dress, flag, and sports. Not to mention, students enjoyed the free samples of food and drink that is commonly found in each country. The representatives for each table explained where you could find that food and how it was made. Many of these representatives even dressed in clothing from their culture, from Asia to South America.
The International Gala was a great event where students got to experience hands-on what other countries are like. Through these events, the Cultural Diversity Committee hopes to bring the world to Brewton-Parker’s campus. Brewton-Parker already has many international students, faculty, and staff, and that number continues to grow each year. From the middle of South Georgia, Brewton-Parker is building relationships between cultures to provide students with a firm foundation as they prepare to go into the world.
We deeply appreciate the students, faculty, and staff who dedicate themselves to our campus events. Through their efforts, students will graduate from Brewton-Parker with an enriched worldview that will follow them well into the future.
