Interning at the Altama Art Museum has been a privilege, and it has also been helpful in learning the inner workings of a museum. There are so many moments to choose to talk about, but I want to talk about an event that was very exciting to be a part of. On October 25, 2018, my good friend Marshall and I, who is also an intern, were able to help my professor in setting up her book release.
Dr. Allen was releasing her first book, and understandably, she was nervous. Weeks before the event, Marshall and I helped design flyers that were sent to those subscribed to the museum and were posted around Brewton-Parker College’s campus. The night of the event before guests arrived, Marshall and I set up chairs and the food table for the guests. As the guests came we talked with them and led them on tours around the museum, including the Victorian-era decorated upstairs, which Marshall and I have helped in re-arranging.
It might not seem like a lot, but little things can make a big impact. The event was successful and the guests enjoyed their time there. Helping with this event and interning at the museum has taught me that no matter how small every good act is, it will always leave a lasting impact on everyone.
